At Green Yachts, we love electric boats because they are quiet, don’t have the noxious fumes a diesel engine has, are easy to maintain and allow us to experience the natural joy of being on a sailboat without having to wait to turn off the diesel engine. It is the same for all of us who drive electric cars who love how great a driving experience is in an electric car compared to a gas car.
We also love Dolphin Paint, a silicone based paint that replaces the ablative paint most boaters use on their boat bottom because it lasts longer and makes a boat 8% faster.
But on this day, Earth Day, we also want to remember how critically important it is that we prioritize green living habits and green buying in order to reduce our human impact on our glorious and fragile Earth. We must take action now if our children and our children’s children will have an ocean with whales and other marine life to enjoy.
In 2021, Gray Whales have been dying in record numbers off the coast of California. Scientists suspect that global warming has affected the availability of invertebrate food sources in their Arctic feeding grounds. The Great Barrier Reef is all but doomed, with between 70 and 99 per cent of corals set for destruction unless immediate “transformative action” is taken to reverse global warming, according to a new report. Worsening hurricane seasons due to climate change directly affect boating.
We at Green Yachts are proud to offer boaters better choices for boating that reduce our impact on our planet and our oceans. We research new technology and trends that can take our actions and efforts even further in reducing human impact on our oceans. Everything we all do has impact. With your next boat purchase, join the growing and important efforts to protect our oceans by getting an electric boat, using bottom paint that does not pollute hard metals into our coastal waters and when possible, demand that boats be made from sustainable materials and be able to be recycled at the end of its life.
Happy Earth Day 2021! We celebrate our Earth today and every day. Join us in taking steps as boaters to protect our wonderful planet and our gorgeous oceans.
